Tax Collection

The elected tax collector is responsible for the collection of the School, County, and Township Real Estate taxes.

Real Estate taxes for the township and County are levied for the calendar year January 1 to December 31.

The Methacton School District taxes are levied for the fiscal period July 1 to June 30. These tax bills are received on or about July 1 each year.

The tax rate for Township real estate taxes will remain at .05 mills. A mill is $1 per $1,000 of assessed value.  The owner of a property assessed at $200,000, will continue to pay $10.00 for the Township portion of their real estate taxes as of 2010.  This rate has not increased since its inception due to vigilant financial watchdogs over past years.

Below is a chart comparing neighboring township’s real estate taxes for a house assessed at $200,000:

Earned Income Tax (EIT)

In addition to the Real Estate Tax, the township collects an Earned Income Tax (EIT). The EIT is revenue received under Act 511 from tax dollars levied upon wages, salaries, commissions, net profits of other compensation of the residents of the Methacton School District.

The EIT is collected by Berkheimer Tax Administrator, a professional collection firm, under contract by the municipality and school district.

The earned income tax rate in the Methacton School District is 1%.  Of this 1%, Worcester Township collects ˝ of 1% - with the remainder going to Methacton School District.  All Methacton School District residents are required to file a Local Earned Income Tax return whether or not the tax is withheld, taxes are due, a refund is due, or even if you have no earned income.

Real Estate Transfer Tax
Transfer tax is levied under Act 511 at the rate of one half of one percent (.5%) of the value on the transferring of real estate or interest in real property situated within the boundaries of the School District.
